Well, we went to hospital twice over the weekend (we’ve got the quickest route nailed). I got up Friday and hadn’t felt Hannah move, which is really unusual for her-she is a wiggly worm. I know she has slowed her activity b/c of her size, but there wasn’t any movement. So, I tried some things at home like drinking OJ and laying on my side. Then, when nothing had happened I called the DR. They told me to drink a coke and lay down for an hour and see if I felt her. After that I still felt nothing-so they sent us to labor and delivery. So, we went to the hospital and they hooked me up to a monitor to listen to Hannah’s heart and everything sounded great. They sent us to eat lunch and come back if she still hadn’t moved. So we did go eat and returned to the hospital. When we got back to the hospital they hooked me up to the monitor again and to the contraction monitor. I was having contractions 2-3 minutes apart. My DR was gone, so they contacted the DR on call. They decided to give me Brethine (which is for asthma, but also relaxes the uterus) b/c they really wanted me to wait until week 37 to deliver (which started yesterday). They said the Brethine would stop all contractions and I’d probably be back on my due date OR it wouldn’t work (comforting, huh?). So, I had three shots of Brethine, I got the shakes really bad and became nauseous. Then, they decided to give me Demerol and Phenergan. After that I was feeling much better, but the contractions were still coming but they were very irregular. Saturday I had contractions 5 minutes apart for about 2 hours and we went back to the hospital…they said I still hadn’t dilated anymore and sent me back home, but did give me another shot of Demerol to help me sleep. So…after that exciting weekend we went to the DR yesterday. He said I was dilated to 2.5 and wants us to wait another week and see if she comes on her own. Hannah may come on her own, but if she doesn’t we’ll talk about inducing around Easter some time.
Looking back, I wish we hadn’t taken the Brethine b/c we’ve heard lots of stories from people about babies coming early and being fine. My original reaction was to not take it, but then the nurse said “We have some babies before the 37th week and they’re fine. We’ve had others we’ve had to ship to Dallas.” So, that scared me into taking the Brethine. All of that to say we’re just waiting now. I’m really ready for her to be here and hope that she comes soon.
Sorry for all of the details, but I wanted to try to answer everyone’s questions. Hopefully we’ll have a baby soon!!!
